LOCKDOWN,AN OPPORTUNITY FOR YOUNG POPULATION TO PARTICIPATE IN COMMUNITY BUILDING.

As we step into mid second Lockdown, parents should audit themselves on how fair they have been to their children since they have enough time with them. The young population has always been taken up by common things surrounding them, which at times makes it hard for parents to critically assess their performance. We all know that cinema halls, betting clubs, theatres, and bars which have been a "Gathering Hub" for most young people are closed. One wonders what could our children be doing with all these missing in their neighbourhood. Did you know, this lockdown could be a turning point to making our children skilled for the next days ahead???
Children should be engaged in all home activities  as a practical lesson to managing the future.
Not many years ago when we could throng "kirengyere" hills to collect firewood. Not many years ago when our village streams would be full of young people struggling to appease their parents with quality service ... Nowadays, many parents have diverted useful work to housemaids, which i think is a great diservice to the young population....
In my episode today, i would like to hint on our village streams stories.....
"Aheiziba" as it was refered to by my late grand mum, would be a great noun in my ear especially when our pots remained empty.  I would immediately face "kakibumbwe" hill to be sure that my great female friend was peeping. It would be a wastage, whenever she couldn't appear at the stream. Fetching water was really fun. I remember one time when we gathered at our village stream, for "oburungi bwansi" as was directed by village leaders. Most  boys would work hard to appease girls, and girls too would do the same. In quest for clean water, all stakeholders at grassroot levels would be involved.
Now, why not let young people participate in communal work?
Are our village streams still functioning????
Let's all help the young generation, the importance of having clean and safe water by creating a conducive environment,to achieve this....
